
The Afro Nation festival roared into life on Friday, July 3, as thousands of music lovers from across the globe converged at the beautiful Praia Da Rocha beach in Portimão for the opening day of the world’s biggest Afrobeats festival.
Set against the stunning Algarve coastline, the first day of the festival delivered an unforgettable showcase of Afrobeats, amapiano, hip hop and global sounds, with an impressive lineup of artists keeping the energy high from afternoon until late into the night.
UK’s Denden got the festivities underway with a vibrant set that immediately set the tone for the weekend.

Kenya’s Bien, the celebrated singer-songwriter and former member of Sauti Sol, followed with a captivating performance that blended his biggest hits with rich African cultural expression. His set was elevated by dancers dressed in traditional Kenyan attire, earning loud cheers from the audience.
UK hitmaker Darkoo kept the momentum going before Brazilian superstar Ludmilla brought her signature flair, delighting fans with an energetic performance that had the crowd singing and dancing along.
The pace barely slowed as American rapper Gunna stepped onto the stage, delivering a powerful set packed with fan favourites.
South Africa’s Tyla, the double Grammy Award-winning global sensation, raised the temperature even further with an energetic performance that showcased his rap flow, captivating dance moves and commanding stage presence.
Backed by a troupe of talented dancers, Tyla once again demonstrated why she has become one of the continent’s biggest crossover stars, with fans embracing every moment of her performance.

Bringing the curtain down on a spectacular opening day was Nigerian megastar Burna Boy, whose explosive performance reaffirmed his status as one of Africa’s greatest live entertainers.
Performing with his full live band, the Grammy-winning singer delivered hit after hit before treating fans to a heartfelt surprise as he celebrated his birthday on stage.
His mother and longtime manager joined him with a birthday cake, creating one of the festival’s most memorable moments as thousands of fans sang along in celebration.
Beyond the performances, the festival grounds buzzed with the unmistakable spirit of Africa, as fans enjoyed an array of food, drinks and cultural experiences, making day one a fitting start to another unforgettable Afro Nation weekend.
